IST 486 Community Management Assignment

a. Class Readings

While reading the text, I felt that relationship between companies and customers in social media was a part of marketing. All the posts made by companies needed to be considered carefully. Although the posts may have proper audience, companies still needed to make everybody who may have chance to see the posts happy. Moreover, the posts on social media may not intend to increase sales, but they are still treated as a way to increase profit.

b. Class discussions

                                  I.            During the classes this week, we learned about jobs related to social media and community management from Kelsey Cohen-Roth via Skype. Jobs related to social media are going deep into almost every industry nowadays. Moreover, social media is not only a way to communicate with customers, it is also a way to promote companies’ brands. I found that people involved in class discussion loved lecture by our guest speaker and the topic about community management.

  c. I read an article that the police released a sketch of assailant and request for public’s help. However, the public recognize the sketch as a wrong people on Facebook. I thought this news would brought some cautions for us. In my opinions, not everybody had the right to post anything they wanted on social media, especially when the posts are related to other individual’s reputation or name. Social Media is not the courthouse while the public is not judge. Sometimes, we need more community management on social media to manage people’s posts. Moreover, I think with the development of social media, more and more community manager will be demanded to manage the community and organize all the posts.
